Understanding SGE: The Future of Google’s AI-Powered Search Experience

As of March 2024 we have renamed Apexchat to Blazeo. We are excited to share the next part of our journey with our customers and partners.
The name ApexChat implies that we are primarily a chat company, which is no longer true. Now we have many offerings, such as call center services, AI, Appointment setting, SMS Enablement, Market Automation, and Sales acceleration (Q2 2024), that go beyond chat. The new name will not only allow us to convey the breadth of our offering but will also better convey our company’s mission and values.
Blazeo, which is derived from the word Blaze, evokes a sense of passion, speed, and energy. A “Blaze” is captivating, illuminates, and represents explosive growth. Blazeo encapsulates our mission to ignite such growth for our customers and partners by delivering innovation with passion, speed, and energy.

Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) is redefining the way users interact with search results. As AI becomes more integrated into search algorithms, traditional SEO strategies need to evolve. The introduction of Google SGE signals a shift toward AI-driven responses that offer more intuitive, conversational, and data-rich answers.
For businesses, marketers, and content creators, this transformation brings both challenges and opportunities. Understanding how SGE impacts SEO is critical for maintaining visibility in search engine results. This guide explores how SGE changes search, what it means for SEO best practices, and how you can optimize content for Google's AI-powered future.
Google's Search Generative Experience is an AI-powered enhancement to search results. Unlike traditional search, which primarily returns a list of links based on search engine algorithms, SGE generates context-rich summaries using machine learning and natural language processing (NLP).
Here’s how SGE works:
For example, if a user searches for "best SEO practices for 2024", SGE may generate a paragraph summarizing expert opinions from top SEO resources, rather than listing individual websites.
One major consequence of SGE is the potential drop in CTR for traditional organic search results. Since AI-generated snippets provide users with immediate answers, they may not need to click through to full articles. This means websites must offer compelling, in-depth content to entice users to visit their pages.
Google continues to prioritize high-quality content that aligns with E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) principles. With SGE, this becomes even more important—only credible, well-researched, and value-driven content will be considered for AI-generated overviews.
Traditional SEO often focuses on short, competitive keywords. However, as SGE utilizes natural language processing, search queries are becoming longer and more conversational. Optimizing for long-tail keywords (e.g., "How does Google SGE impact local SEO rankings?") will help content remain relevant.
SGE relies heavily on structured data to understand and categorize information effectively. Websites that use schema markup (e.g., FAQ, How-To, Article, Review schemas) will have a better chance of being featured in SGE snippets.
As SGE changes SEO, businesses must refine their SEO strategies to maintain visibility. Below are best practices for adapting to AI-driven search.
Google’s AI prioritizes content that answers users’ search intent effectively. To optimize your content for SGE, consider the following:
Instead of writing a general article on "SEO," target specific user needs, such as:
Since SGE encourages conversational search, content should be structured to match natural language queries.
Best Practices:
Example: Instead of writing "Google SGE SEO optimization," write "How does Google’s Search Generative Experience impact SEO?".
Google SGE relies on structured data to extract relevant information efficiently. Implement schema markup to enhance visibility.
Key schema types to implement:
Example: FAQ Schema for SEO Optimization
SGE often pulls data from featured snippets, so securing this position increases content visibility.
How to rank for featured snippets:
Example: Optimized Snippet for "SGE SEO Strategies"
The rise of AI-powered search means SEO professionals, content creators, and businesses must stay ahead of the curve. Here’s how to future-proof your SEO:
As AI search technology advances, businesses that adapt quickly will gain a competitive edge.
Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) represents a significant shift in search behavior and SEO optimization. AI-generated responses are shaping how users interact with content, making it essential to prioritize high-quality, structured, and user-focused SEO strategies.
By adapting to AI-driven search, businesses can stay ahead in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
